Earl E. Armstrong, age 96, of Little Falls, MN, passed away Tuesday, August 26, 2014, at St. Ottos Care Center in Little Falls.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, September 2, 2014, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Little Falls, MN, with Fr. Joseph Herzing officiating.Interment will be in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery north of Little Falls, with military honors by the Little Falls American Legion Post #46.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at church.
Earl Edward Armstrong was born on May 19, 1918 in Royalton, Minnesota the son of George and Mary (Schwientek) Armstrong.He grew up in Royalton where he attended school graduating with the Class of 1936.Following his schooling, he worked in a Machine Shop in Minneapolis.He was united in marriage to Irene Petron on July 4, 1941 in Minneapolis.On February 5, 1942, Earl enlisted in the United States Army and was honorably discharged on December 4, 1945.Following his military service he worked for a time in construction in South Dakota.The couple purchased the Darling Store in 1953 and owned and operated it until 1975.Earl then worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a rural mail carrier until his retirement in 1989.He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Little Falls where he faithfully served as a Mass Server for many funerals.He was also a member of the Little Falls American Legion Post #46.In his leisure time, Earl enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, John Armstrong of Little Falls and Mary Whalen of Brainerd, MN; five grandchildren, Hannah Whalen, Claire Whalen, Beth Armstrong, Christine Hagman, and John Armstrong and three great-grandchildren, Natalie Hagman, Mackenzie Armstrong, Abigail Armstrong.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents, George & Mary (Schwientek) Armstrong; wife, Irene (Petron) Armstrong (July 30, 2013); brothers, LeRoy, Norbert and Jenner and sister, Cordelia Wilcox.
