Doris (Gall-Schmidtbauer) Hilfer

April 1, 1944 — February 11, 2015

Doris Mae (Gall-Schmidtbauer) Hilfer, 70 year old resident of the Lakewood Care Center in Staples, was released into Gods hands on February 11, 2015 after a long battle with Alzheimers.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 14, 2015, at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Pierz.Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 8:00 p.m. Friday, February 13th and 9:00 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 14th all at Emblom Brenny Funeral Service in Pierz.

There will be a Christian Mothers Rosary at 4:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home followed by a Secular Franciscan Prayer Service at 6:30 p.m.

Doris Mae was born on April 1, 1944, to John and Christine (Otremba) Gall in Buckman.She had 13 siblings and as the oldest daughter she was the family cook and barber.Doris graduated in 1962 and married David Schmidtbauer on June 3, 1963.They lived on a farm in rural Pierz and had two children, Lisa Jetvig and Paul (wife Amy). David passed away on November 11, 1988.Doris married Robert (Bob) Hilfer on February 29, 1990, and added two more children to her family, Chris (wife Laurie) and Robin (Jason Eatros). They made their home in Little Falls, where they both worked for the hospital and St Ottos.Bob passed away May 13, 2005.

Doris was a true believer in God and had a special connection with Mother Mary.She was a member of the Secular Franciscan Order (St Francis Assisi Fraternity) of Little Falls, the Christian Mothers in Pierz, and was active in St. Marys and St. Josephs church and the TEC program.
Doris worked over 20 years at the St. Ottos Laundry.She volunteered her time to mend the residents clothing, to make sure they were comfortable.She said, As a volunteer, my biggest thrill is to follow in the footsteps of St. Francis by living the Gospel message of Jesus.

Doris was a loving grandmother and took every opportunity to spend time with her grandchildren which included long walks in the park to feed the ducks, puzzle building, and joking and laughing. The grandchildren knew a bowl of sherbet was always waiting for them when they visited: Michelle Jetvig fiance John Eisenberg, Angie and Dustin Hasbrouck, Nicole Schmidtbauer, Nick Yanta, Erin Schmidtbauer, Michael Jetvig, Zack Yanta, Jessica and Raul Coronado, Andrew Schmidtbauer, Katelyn Hilfer, Ryan Schmidtbauer, Mason Eatros, Nick Norrbom, and Dalton Eatros.Doris had recently become a great grandmother to Siri Coronado.

Doris is survived by: brothers Marvin (Kitty), Jerry (Linda), Alvin (Darlene), Donny (Debbie), David (Sue), Leon (Sue), Marnie (Lisa), Gordie (Betty); sisters Jeannie Thomas, Diane (Roger) Thomas, Yvonne (Pete) Harold, and sister in law Renee Gall.

Doris was preceded in death by: Ronnie Thomas, Dennis Gall, Ralph Gall, Herb Schmidtbauer, Craig Gall, Roy Gall, Marcel Majka, Mikey Schmidtbauer, Tony Schmidtbauer, and Vaughn Erickson.
