Donald W. Barthel, 49 year old resident of Little Falls, MN died Thursday, June 18, 2009 at his home in Little Falls, MN. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM Monday, June 22, 2009 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Little Falls with Father Mark Innocenti officiating. Burial will follow at the Minnesota State Veteran's Cemetery in Little Falls. A visitation will be held from 4-8 PM Sunday, June 21 and from 8:30-9:30 AM Monday at the Emblom-Brenny Funeral Service in Little Falls. A prayer service will be held at 6 PM Sunday evening at the funeral home. Donald Barthel was born October 12, 1959 to Otto and Dorothy (Hartung) Barthel in Little Falls, MN. He graduated from the Little Falls Community High School in 1978. Donald served in the Marine Corps from 1978 to 1983 and the National Guards from 1983 until 2006. He was united in marriage to Nancy Burggraff on April 21, 1979 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Little Falls. Donald worked as a diesel mechanic at Camp Ripley until his retirement. Following his retirement, he worked at Bill's Standard in Little Falls. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, gardening and collecting agates. He also loved watching Western movies and collecting coins. Donald especially loved spending time with his children and granddaughters. He was a man always willing to take the time to help anyone out. He was loved by family and friends and will be greatly missed. Donald is survived by the mother of his children, Nancy Barthel of Little Falls, MN; children, Heather (Corey) Tabatt of Little Falls, MN, Kayla Barthel of Little Falls, MN and Zachary (fiance, Shari) Barthel of Grey Eagle, MN; mother, Dorothy (Richard) Billmeyer of Little Falls, MN; grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Molly Tabatt; his dog, Zues; brother and sisters, Dennis (Jean) Barthel of Luxemburg, MN, Helen (Harvey) Bloom of Randall, MN, Jerry(Johnnie) Barthel of Staples, MN, Karen (Roger) Harakel of Randall, MN, Donna (Brad) Beaty of Little Falls, MN and Rodney (Dahna) Barthel of Blaine, MN; step-brothers and sisters, Julie Joe) Lauer of Sartell, MN, Faith (Vince) Pavkovich of Big Lake, MN and Paul (Nancy) Billmeyer of Rice, MN and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Otto Barthel; step-brothers, Steven and Eugene Billmeyer and grandparents, Leo and Martha Thull.
