Dennis H. Breitbach

April 7, 1950 — May 24, 2024

Pierz

Dennis H Breitbach, 74, of Pierz, passed away surrounded by loving family on Friday, May 24, 2024, at his home.

Dennis was born on April 7, 1950, in Melrose, MN, to Sylvester and Rosella (Lensing) Breitbach, one of nine children. He graduated from Melrose High School in 1968 and then enlisted in the United States Army in September of 1968. Dennis served his country as an infantryman in the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in September of 1971. After completing his time of service, he lived in Florida, where he met the love of his life, Marion “Sue” Osteen. The two were wed on New Year’s Day in 1972 and would welcome two children to their union, Duane and Michelle.

Dennis attended St. Cloud Technical School where he earned his degree as a licensed practical nurse. For over 20 years, he worked as a nurse for the Veteran’s Health Administration in the psychiatric department. Dennis retired early at the age of 45 due to health concerns, but soon found a new passion traveling with Sue in their Winnebago camper to flee markets, where the couple would set up a booth to sell their wares.

Known to be a straight shooter, Dennis was everyone’s rock. He loved spending time with his family and was proud to walk his sister, daughter, and granddaughter down the aisle at their weddings. He was a caregiver to everyone, always having their backs.

Dennis enjoyed hunting, camping, cooking old-time campfire meals, baking, pulling practical jokes, and attending Country-Western concerts. He was an animal lover, raising horses and traveling to flee markets with their two dogs and two cats in tow, and a member of the Color Guard at Fort Ripley. He will be remembered for his happiness and generosity.

Left to cherish the memory of Dennis is his wife of 52 years, Sue; his daughter, Michelle Breitbach; his brothers: Kenny (Carol) and James Breitbach; his sisters: Maggie Eyler, Mary Lou (Al) Yamry, Kate (Richard) Rooney, and Linda (Kirt) Knothe; five grandchildren; two adopted grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death was his son, Duane; his parents; his sister, Carol Gautney; his brother, John Breitbach; and his mother-in-law, Wynona Jones.
