Delwin Howard

Delwin "Del" Howard, 75 year old resident of Hillman, MN died Sunday, June 12 at his home in Hillman, MN with his family by his side. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, June 16 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Rita's Catholic Church in Hillman, MN with Father Greg Poser officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00-8:00 P.M. on Wednesday at the Emblom-Brenny Funeral Service in Pierz, MN, and from 10:00-11:00 A.M. on Thursday at the church. Military Rites will be conducted by the Hillman American Legion Post # 602. A Parish Prayer will be said at 5:00 P.M. on Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Delwin "Del" Howard was born May 24, 1936 in Dallas, OR to the late Gurney Clinton and Fern Olive (Fish) Howard. Del attended and graduated from Jefferson School in Portland, OR. He enlisted in the United States Army on January 4, 1954 in Portland, OR and was honorably discharged on December 13, 1956 in Fort Ord, CA. During his time in the military, he received the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. He was also very involved with the medic groups while in the military. He worked as a commercial fisherman while living in Freeport, OR. Delwin was united in marriage to Marie Bleichner on December 3, 1977 in Ukiah, OR. The couple lived for a short time in Ukiah, Oregon and Long Beach, CA where Del worked for Thrifty Oil as a regional manager. Delwin retired due to a military disability and the couple moved to Minnesota in 1986. They resided in Hillman, MN where Del enjoyed working with Reiny Brausen at the Hillman American Legion Club. He enjoyed wood working (especially bird houses), paint by numbers, hunting, fishing and spending time with family and friends. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Marie Howard of Hillman, MN; children, Christopher Kellehar of Eugene, OR, Corey Hoffmeister of Greshem, OR, George Brausen of Ipswitch, SD, Tom Brausen of Onamia, MN, Rosemarie Ross of Laughlin, NV, Bonnie Eastman of Sullivan Lake, MN, Lynn Rahn of Pierz, MN, Lori Gohl of Pierz, MN, Cathie Tembreull of Pierz, MN and Mary Thomas of Pierz, MN; sisters, Elsie Allison of Colbert, OK and 78 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gurney C. and Fern O. (Fish) Howard; children, Robert Brausen, Reinhard Brausen, Christine Littlefoot and a sister, Louise Weber. Honorary Casket Bearers will be: Lorlee Beto, Angie Brausen, Shannon Hecimovich, Lacey Hines Ayla Brausen, Samantha Beto, Breanna Brausen Stephanie Brausen, Wendy Otterness. Casket Bearers will be: Lyle Rahn, Timothy Thomas, Keith Gohl, Stephen Cameron Mike, Juetten, Reinhard Brausen, Clifford Block, Blaine Eastman, Benjamin Block,Baron Brausen, Mike Hecimovich The family would like to thank Mike Hecimovich, Clifford Block and Lynn and Lyle Rahn for always being there for Del.
