David Joseph Hiemenz, a beloved resident of Little Falls, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2024, at the St. Cloud VA Center, at the age of 77. A devoted husband, father, and friend, David will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Born on October 20, 1947, in Little Falls, Minnesota, to the late Victor M. and Josephine Irene (Czech) Hiemenz, David grew up in Pierz, where he graduated from Father Pierz School in 1966. His sense of duty and patriotism led him to serve in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from August 18, 1967, until his honorable discharge on March 21, 1970. David returned to Minnesota, where he built a remarkable career as an over-the-road driver for AMF Crestliner, Genmar, and Anderson Trucking, culminating in over a million miles driven until his retirement in 2005.
On July 22, 2000, he united in marriage with Judy Elaine Guthridge at Bethel Lutheran Church in Little Falls. Together, they created a loving home in Little Falls, where David’s passions included collecting John Deere tractors—particularly his treasured 1947 model D and watching classic John Wayne movies. David cherished the camaraderie of his fellow members at the local two-cylinder club, the Little Falls American Legion Post #46, and the Little Falls VFW Post #1112.
David is survived by his loving wife, Judy Hiemenz of Little Falls, and his children: Amy (Andrew) Haider of Cheyenne, OK, Marc Hiemenz of Coon Rapids, and Allen (Debbie) Barney. He is also survived by his siblings, Dennis (Margie) Hiemenz of Clearbrook, MN, Michael (Rhonda) Hiemenz of Washington, Karen (Donnie) Boser of Hillman, Joyce (Jim) Ringwelski of Little Falls, Linda (Don) Carlson of Royalton, and Renee (Bob) Retka of Long Prairie. He leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Anna Vrchota of Sauk Rapids, Bryce and Breanna Barney, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
David was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Janet Grittner.
In honor of his service and legacy, a graveside service will be held on Friday, December 6, 2024, at 3:00 P.M. at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, north of Little Falls. The Little Falls American Legion Post #46 and the Little Falls VFW Post #1112 will provide military honors, a testament to David's commitment to his country and community.
