Charles "Chuck" Plantenberg, age 85, of Royalton, MN, passed away Friday, February 22, 2013 at the VA Hospital in St. Cloud, MN. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Royalton, MN, with Fr. Laurn Virnig officiating. Interment with military honors by the Royalton American Legion will be in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery north of Little Falls. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 27 and 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 28th all at Emblom-Brenny Funeral Service in Royalton. There will be a Rosary at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home followed by a parish prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Charles "Chuck" Anthony Plantenberg was born on June 30, 1927, in Royalton, Minnesota the son of Rudolph & Louise (Lodermeier) Plantenberg. He grew up in the Royalton area and attended Royalton elementary and high school. He enlisted in the United States Navy where he served from 1945 - 1949 when he was honorably discharged. Following the service, he was united in marriage to Jeanette Selinski on September 28, 1953, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Bowlus, MN. The couple made their home in Royalton where they have lived all their married life. Chuck worked as a salesman for Royalton Beverage Company for 30 years and later at Hennepin Paper in Little Falls until his retirement. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, bowling, watching the MN Twins and Vikings, coaching baseball, playing cards, trips to the casino and the activities at the Legion. He was the founder of the Little League Little Six baseball in Royalton. He also enjoyed working with the Boy Scouts. Chuck especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Royalton where he was an usher, the Royalton American Legion for over 60 years, Royalton Fire Department for 29 years, the Royalton City Councilman for many years and the Royalton Sportsmen's Club. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jeanette of Royalton, MN; children, Karen (Jerry) Zilka of Little Falls, MN and Steve (Wendy) Plantenberg of Robins, IA; three grandchildren, Jason (Hayley) Zilka of Hasting, MN, Amanda (Josh) Trembley of Rice, MN, and Lakyn Plantenberg of Robins, IA; great-grandchildren, London Zilka and Brecken Zilka and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph & Louise Plantenberg; siblings, Clarence Plantenberg, Joseph Plantenberg, Ann Hauser, Theresa Zurowski, and Rita Plantenberg.
