Burton Burt Thilquist

Burton "Burt" Thilquist Burton "Burt" P. Thilquist, 93 year old resident of Randall, MN formerly of Hopkins, MN and Waverly, MN died Wednesday. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 A.M. at the Randall Presbyterian Church in Randall, MN. with Rev. Rob Bellin officiating. Friends may call from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. on Saturday at the church. Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery north of Little Falls, MN. Burt was born June 22, 1917 in Milaca, MN to the late Oscar G. Thilquist and Charlotte (Sandholm) Thilquist. As a young man, he worked on his parents' farm for a few years. He drove truck for Noble Transport before his military duty. Burt enlisted in the United States Army at Fort Snelling, MN on April 21, 1941. He served his Country during World War II in Central Europe. He received the Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theatre Service Medal, American Defense Service Medal and Two Overseas Service Bars. Burt was united in marriage to Susanna "Sue" Danielson on October 18, 1941 in Minneapolis, MN. The couple lived in North Carolina while Burt continued his military duties. Burt was honorably discharged on October 17, 1945 as a Staff Sergeant at Camp McCoy, WI. After returning home from the service, he worked a few years as a driver for Clark Transport Co. In 1956, Burt went to work for Super Valu Foods in Hopkins, MN. He worked as a truck driver and mechanic for Super Valu. In 1969, the couple moved to Waverly, MN where they purchased a 40 acre hobby farm. He retired in 1980. Burt and Sue moved to Fish Trap Lake north of Randall, MN, in 1987. Burt was a faithful supporter to Susanna. They enjoyed two trips to Sweden together. Burt had a passion for farming. He enjoyed raising beef cattle, restoring tractors and farming with his son, Dan, until the age of 91. Burt was proud to be a Democrat. He attended Randall Presbyterian Church. Burton is survived by his children, Lucille Thomas & husband, Yosiah Niyo, of Ames, IA, Nancy Keeton & husband, Robert "Bob", of Cushing, MN, Dan Thilquist & wife, Sharon, of Randall, MN; sisters-in-law, Edith Thilquist of Milaca, MN and Eleanor Boyer of Blaine, MN; grandchildren, Tempori Kerber, Scott Thomas, Michelle Wilwerding, Amanda Thilquist, Eric Thilquist and Ryan Thilquist; three great- grandchildren, Asha, Ashley and Nikka Sukhu. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Charlotte Thilquist; wife, Susanna on December 8, 2006; brother, Lester Thilquist and sister, Lucille Thilquist.
