Bernard "Bernie" Voegtle, 86 year old resident of Pierz, MN entered eternal life Monday, July 23 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Brainerd, MN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, July 28 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pierz, MN with Father Ken Popp and Father David Maciej con-celebrating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may gather from 4:00-8:00 P.M. on Friday at Emblom-Brenny Funeral Service in Pierz, MN and from 9:30 until 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, also at the funeral home. The Knight's of Columbus will pray at 6:00 P.M. followed by Parish Prayers at 7:00 P.M. on Friday evening at the funeral home. Military Rites will be conducted by the Pierz American Legion Post #341. Bernard Voegtle was born August 7, 1925 in Chicago, IL to the late Bernard and Marie (Lamberty) Voegtle. He resided in Chicago, IL and attended St. Philomena Elementary School and graduated from St. Patrick's High School. He enlisted in the United States Navy on February 17, 1944 and was honorably discharged on May 21, 1946. He was united in marriage to Kathleen Charlton on May 5, 1951 at Sacred Heart Church in Lombard, IL. The couple lived in Elmhurst, IL, Roselle, IL, Lombard, IL, Park Rapids, MN and most recently in Pierz, MN. Bernie worked as a Draftsman at Clearing Manufacturing and International Harvester. He was a lighting consultant with Sears and in lighting sales with Duro Test. Bernie had a great love of music that included singing with a barbershop quartet and playing the guitar, piano, banjo, accordion and harmonica. He passed his love of music along to his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and going to garage sales and auctions. He was a member of the Pierz American Legion Post #341, Knight's of Columbus and St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pierz, MN, where he sang in the folk group. Bernie's family will remember him for his unfailing love of family and friends and his strong personal faith. He was an instrument of God's word and love. Bernie was selfless in helping many in times of need. He had a gift of witt, riddle and humor. Together with his sweetheart Kay, he created a family out of love, faith and music. "Through him, heaven has surely become a more beautiful place and his legacy will continue to shine through each of us." Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Kathleen "Kay" Voegtle of Pierz, MN; children, Bernard "Bernie" (Lora Lee) of Superior, WI, Kate (Jim) Dottenwhy of Moorhead, MN, Bernadette "Dolly" (Bruce) Burlage of Lombard, IL, Timothy Voegtle and (special friend, Tonja) of Des Moines, IA, Mary Dolores (Bill) Bibby of Warrenville, IL, Annette Cozzi of St. Charles, IL, Jeanne (Robert) Gimenez of New Milford, CT, Christine (Mitch) Nelson of Pierz, MN and Eileen Voegtle of Pierz, MN; sister, Marie (Patrick) McQuillin of Ringwood, IL; 29 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and sister-in-law, Ellen Voegtle of Winfield, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Daniel "Danny" Joseph; grandchildren, Jessica & Jennifer Nelson; great-grandchild, Morgan Burlage; brother, Joseph Voegtle; sisters, Catherine Dottenwhy (Jack), Margaret Hernbroth (Matthew). Casket Bearers will be: Jason Burlage, Ryan Voegtle, Sarah Dottenwhy, Mary Seelen, Christine Weihofen, Dr. Amy Vant, Eileen Voegtle, Brittany Hannenken, Jamie Pyrlik. In Lieu of Flowers Memorials Preferred to the family of Bernard Voegtle.
