Bernard "Bernie" L. Maurer, age 81 of Little Falls, MN, passed away Tuesday, January 18, 2012, at his home in Little Falls Township, Morrison County, MN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, January 23, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Little Falls with Father Nick Landsberger officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 P.M. Sunday and Monday 8:00-10:30 A.M. at the Emblom Brenny Funeral Service in Little Falls. Bernard "Bernie" Maurer was born February 23, 1930, in Pierz, Morrison County, MN to the late Wenzel H. and Frances (Kobilka) Maurer. He grew up in Pierz where he attended grade school. He graduated from Little Falls High School in 1948. Following his schooling, Bernie worked at the creamery in Pierz. He entered the United States Army on February 15, 1951 in Minneapolis, MN. While in the service, Bernie served with the 45th Infantry Division in Korea and received the Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Two Overseas Bars, Korean Service Medal with Three Bronze Service Stars, the United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He received an honorable discharge on February 14, 1954 at Camp Carson, CO. He was united in marriage to Helen M. Silvers on November 3, 1954 at St Catherine's Catholic Church in Farming, MN. Following their marriage, Bernie and Helen made their home in Little Falls. Bernie worked as an electrician retiring in 1992. His retirement found him enjoying woodworking and especially making wooden angels for Coborn Cancer Center and many other people. He very much enjoyed sharing his craftsmanship of wooden angels with everyone. He also loved to fish and hunt. Bernie was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Little Falls, the Knights of Columbus (past Grand Knight), the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 242, the Little Falls V.F.W. Post #1112, the Little Falls American Legion Post #46, Central Minnesota Teens Encounter Christ and the Silvers Maurer Hunting Camp. Left to cherish his memory are Helen, his wife of 57 years; sons & daughters, Paul (Vicki) Maurer of Grand Rapids, MN, Dave Maurer (Sally NaultMaurer) of Cambridge, MN, Bill (Gwen) Maurer of Loretto, MN, Bruce (Valerie) Maurer of Champlin, MN, Jeanne (Dan) Moe of Little Falls, MN, Steve (Missy Culshaw) Maurer of Coon Rapids, MN, Amy (Tom) Deml of Little Falls, MN and Matt (Sawra) Maurer of Rochester, MN; sisters, Isabel Bush of California and JoAnn Valley of Minneapolis, MN; 20 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. Bernie was preceded in death by his parents, Wenzel & Frances Maurer; brothers, Ervin, Richard, Leo, Earl & Edward Maurer; sister, Irene Scholl and grandson, David Moe. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to Unity Family Homecare and Hospice.
