Andrew J. Starin, age 92, of Little Falls, MN, died Saturday, January 10, 2009 at his home. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 17, 2009 at the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour in Little Falls, MN with Rev. Randy Welsand officiating. Interment will be in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN. Local military honors will be provided by the Little Falls American Legion Post #46 and Little Falls V.F.W. Post #1112. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. on Friday, January 16, 2009 at Emblom-Brenny Funeral Service (southeast chapel) in Little Falls and one hour prior to the service at the church. Andrew Joseph Starin was born on April 16, 1916 in Eveleth, MN, the son of Andrew and Mary (Vrhovec) Starin. He grew up in Eveleth where he attended school. He continued his education at Eveleth Junior College, Duluth Teachers College and the University of Minnesota. Andrew served in the United States Army, Army Corps of Engineer and the U.S. Army Reserve for 35 years. He was united in marriage to Charlene Champlin on March 9, 1942 in Bemidji, MN. The couple moved to Little Falls in 1948. Andrew was employed by the State of Minnesota Department of Public Health as a public health engineer. He enjoyed going to the Little Falls Senior Center, carpentry, playing cards, playing cribbage, calling bingo, gardening, traveling, polka and running track. He was a life member of the Little Falls American Legion Post #46 for 56 years, life member of the Little Falls V.F.W. Post #1112, a member of the 40 & 8, a member of the rifle squad and the Minnesota Society of Professional Engineers. Andrew enjoyed showing his agility by kicking the high door frame at the American Legion. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Charlene Starin of Little Falls, MN; children, Andrea (Henry Dahlman) Starin of Minneapolis, Debra (Bill James) Starin of Denver, CO, Geoffrey Starin of Seattle, WA and Lisa Starin of Minneapolis; 3 grandchildren, Kerry (Jolene) Forsyth of Hopkins, MN, Quentin Starin of Minneapolis and Adelle (Erik) Chisholm of Little Falls, MN; one great-grandchild, Remington Andrew Chisholm of Little Falls, MN; nephews, Anthony (Betty) Chos of Cook, MN, James Chos of Eveleth, MN; niece, Sally Chos of Eveleth and nieces and nephews in Slovania. He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew & Mary Starin and a sister, Ida Chos. Urn bearers will be Kerry Forsyth and Quentin Starin. Honorary pallbearers will be Jackie Gosiak, Thomas Schumacher, Lisa Kobliska, Jayme Solem, James Chos, Tony Chos, members of the Little Falls V.F.W., American Legion and 40 & 8 and his best friend, Taco. Memorials preferred to Episcopal Church of Our Saviour or Mayo Clinic for brain science research.
