Alan Scott Vonder Haar, age 47, of Las Vegas, NV, formerly of Little Falls, passed away on November 1, 2011. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at Emblom-Brenny Funeral Service in Little Falls with Chaplain Gregg Valentine officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Alan was born on June 23, 1964 in Little Falls, MN, the son of Gary & Donna Vonder Haar. He grew up in Little Falls where he attended school graduating with the class of 1982. Following his schooling, Alan enlisted in the United States Army where he served until his honorable discharge in 1986. He was stationed in Panama and Honduras as a military policeman. After leaving the service, he attended St. Cloud State University. While in college, he worked at the Oaks Supper Club in Little Falls as a bartender. He also worked at Grand Casino Mille Lacs where he acquired his passion for the operations of casinos, especially in security and surveillance. Alan worked at a number of casinos throughout the United States and overseas. In 1995, he settled in Las Vegas, where he worked in security at several casinos. He was promoted from security into surveillance with Caesar's Entertainment Group and shortly thereafter became the surveillance manager at the Rio All Suite Hotel & Casino which was his dream job. Alan made friends quickly in Las Vegas and could strike up conversations with total strangers. Once you earned his trust, you were friends for life. Regardless of distance from Little Falls, he always maintained contact with his close high school friends. Shortly after arriving in Las Vegas, he met the love of his life, Mary and her son Gabe, along with her extended family. They were an immediate hit!! Alan enjoyed life outside of work as well. He enjoyed working on home projects, electronics, shopping and music. However, his two true hobbies were the Minnesota Vikings and Musky Fishing in Canada and Minnesota. He stayed loyal to the Vikings regardless of their record. He was a true, diehard fan. He even had a room dedicated to Vikings memorabilia at his home in Las Vegas. If there was a Vikings collectible, he purchased it or thought about buying it to display in his Vikings room. His other love was, "Musky Hunting" as he called it and could spend hours casting for the elusive "monster". He enjoyed several trips to Musky Bay in Canada, stopping along the way to visit family and friends. Left to cherish his memory are his parents, Gary & Donna of Little Falls; grandfather, Carl F. Vonder Haar of Little Falls; siblings, Lyn (Ray) Kalis of Royalton and Mark (Stacy Kjera) Vonder Haar of Otsego; significant other, Mary Rodriguez and son, Gabe of Las Vegas; nieces and nephews, Rick Kalis, Randy Kalis, Kris (Kenny) Wittmann; great niece and nephews, Teyah Kalis, Kylan, Kelton and Kenlin Wittmann; Mary's parents and siblings, Bill & Dixie, Chuck, Samantha and Whitney Lejeune all of Las Vegas and many other aunts, uncles and cousins. Alan was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dolores Vonder Haar and Donald & Mildred Peterson.
