Alan J. Raab

Alan James Raab, age 63 of Little Falls, MN, passed away Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at St. Gabriel's Hospital in Little Falls, MN. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:30 A.M. at First United Church in Little Falls with the Rev. Damon Heitmann officiating. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery in Little Falls, MN. Visitation is from 9:30-10:30 A.M. Friday at First United Church in Little Falls. Alan James Raab was born October 1, 1947, in Eldora, IA to Dallas & Vivian (Taylor) Raab. He was born with severe deformities of his hands and feet. During his first three years or so, Alan had many surgeries at Iowa University Hospitals to give him a better life with his hands. He attended regular school up through the eighth grade. He had a beautiful voice and sang in a quartet at their graduation services. Alan was never hesitant in trying to do anything. He was a capable person on tractors helping with farm work. When he wanted to be on his own, Alan attended a rehabilitation school in Minneapolis and then worked at Federal Munitions Corporation in housekeeping in Minneapolis. He roomed with Margaret and Frank Salen in Fridley, MN. They treated him as a part of their family. Alan worked for 20 plus years in Minneapolis and when FMC closed, he retired and bought his home in Little Falls, MN, where he resided until his death. Alan enjoyed collecting toy machinery, especially John Deere tractors. He had his own boat and loved fishing. He was a member of First United Church in Little Falls. Left to cherish his memory are his parents, Dallas & Vivian Raab of Little Falls, MN; brother, Stanley (Liz) Raab of LaVista, NE; sister, Patty Hanneman of Durham, NC; nephews, Steve & Dave Raab, Russel Hanneman & Wayne Phillips and a niece, Kellie Hanneman.
