Kunkel, Fr. Charles William, OSC.Born November 16, 1940, to Vincent and Leona (Potthoff) in Pearl Lake, MN.Died October 12, 2014, in Onamia, MN.
Fr. Charlie attended the Crosiers Seminary in Onamia from 1954 until 1960.He joined the Crosiers as a novice and was vested in the Crosier habit on August 27th, 1960, in Hastings, NE, and made his first profession of vows there on August 28, 1961.He earned his bachelors degree at St. Francis College and his theology degree from the Crosier House of Studies, both in Fort Wayne, Indiana.He was ordained a Crosier priest on June 3, 1967, in Fort Wayne.
His ministry assignments included service on the faculty of the Crosiers Wawasee Preparatory School in Indiana; leadership as Prior in the Crosier communities of Fort Wayne, Phoenix, and Hastings;and service as Pastor at St. Odilia Church in Shoreview and St. Marys Church in Milaca.His last assignment was as Novice Director for the Crosiers until cancer made this impossible this past July.
Services will be held at the Crosier Priory church in Onamia, MN, on Thursday, October 16th with the Reception of the Body and the Office of the Dead by the Priory Community at 8:00 AM.Public Vigil in the church from 9:00 11:00 with the Funeral Mass at 11:00.Luncheon to follow immediately with a later private burial at the Crosier cemetery.
Survived by three sisters and seven brothers and their extended families and his Crosier confreres.Memorials are preferred to the Fr. Charles Kunkel, OSC, Vocation and Formation Scholarship Fund, % The Crosier Fathers and Brothers, Box 500, Onamia, MN, 56359-0500.
